The Bridgewater Congregational Church has a long tradition of offering the children of our town something special on Halloween night. It had to be well over 20 years ago, that we were the distributors and collectors for Trick-or-Treat UNICEF boxes. For many years, the collection amounted to $100.00 to a few hundred, but over the past few years, with our help, the collection totaled close to $2000.00!!!
A few years ago, we introduced a new method for Trick-or-Treating. All children in costume were invited to go Trunk-or-Treating in the church parking lot. Instead of knocking on the doors of houses, they went from car to car, where the trunks of cars were opened and filled with goodies! We added another dimension to the evening two years ago . . . a Ziti dinner was served to start the evening! Boy, has that been well received and enjoyed by all!
That brings us to, LOOK WHAT WE STARTED! Because of our efforts and continual support of offering our children a safe, fun Halloween night, the Bridgewater Recreation Commission came on board last year to help make the evening even more special. Once word started to travel around town (you know how fast that is!), everyone wanted to get on board!
So once again this year, the entire town Green was filled with excitement on Halloween night. We offered our popular Ziti dinner and Trunk-or-Treat in our parking lot, and Trunks continued along the Green with a very scary haunted sidewalk at the Village Store. Ghoulies and ghosties, witches and goblins stopped by the Historical Society and the Library for treats as well as at St. Mark’s and the Grange.
Our townwide Halloween celebration has really taken off! So much imagination and creativity went into everyone's decorations and costumes! And speaking of taking off . . . we collected $747 from our dinner to donate to Loaves & Fishes and a shopping cart overflowing with goods for the New Milford Food Pantry.
Thank you, All!
